Paul Mallen is President and Chief Executive Officer of the Amalgamated Family of Companies. Since joining the Company in June 2005 as Chief Financial Officer, he has held responsibility over multiple areas of operation and has been involved in all aspects of the business; not only for the finance function, but also had the IT, underwriting, insurance operations and facilities units reporting to him. Additionally, he worked closely with sales and other business units and was significantly involved with the Company’s strategic planning. In addition to his direct involvement across broad operational areas, Mr. Mallen has over 30 years of experience across a wide range of industries and in various corporate finance activities, including transaction advisory services, capital structuring, and credit and financial analysis. His expertise and experience also encompass operations, accounting and auditing, as well as SEC regulatory compliance and reporting.
Prior to joining Amalgamated, Mr. Mallen held positions with other consulting and financial services firms. He was a Managing Director at FTI Consulting and a Senior Manager at Deloitte, where he led numerous teams as a merger and acquisitions specialist. His career also included his role with Citibank in the Acquisition Finance and Global Media and Communications Commercial Banking Groups.
Mr. Mallen is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a Master of Business Administration in Finance and International Business from the New York University (NYU) Stern School of Business and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Emory University. He also graduated from Citibank’s Institute for Global Finance where he was credit trained.
Mr. Mallen serves on the Board of Directors of Amalgamated Life Insurance Company, its parent company, Alico Services Corporation, AliCare and AliCare Medical Management, which are Amalgamated affiliates. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Society of Insurance Financial Management (SIFM), the Montville Lacrosse Club, and is a former Board Member of INMEX (Informed Meetings Exchange), a conference and event management organization. Mr. Mallen is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
Leslie Bostic serves as the Senior Vice President of Human Resources for Amalgamated Life. In this role, she oversees the entire Human Resources (HR) operation at Amalgamated, including addressing the organization staffing requirements, training and development, performance management, employee benefits and payroll administration. Additionally, she provides strategies to promote a positive, productive workforce, support the Company’s broader corporate mission and vision, and effectively manage policies and procedures pertaining to the employer-employee relationship.
Leslie joined Amalgamated Life in 2008 having previously served in various senior management HR positions. They include that as Senior Manager with Schering-Plough Corporation; Vice President, Human Resources with SBLI USA Mutual Life Insurance Company; and Director, Human Resources with The Prudential Insurance Company of America.
Leslie holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and English & American Literature from Brown University and a Master of Business Administration from New York University’s Stern School of Business. She holds the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) designation. Leslie has served as a volunteer with the Newark Museum Counsel and as a mentor for WOMEN Unlimited, a national organization which cultivates leadership excellence in high potential women.
John Dubil serves as Senior Vice President of Facilities for the Amalgamated Family of Companies including Amalgamated Life Insurance. In this role, he oversees all facets of building maintenance, security, fire safety, construction, real estate, HVAC, purchasing, transportation and mail services. It is a critical role for the organization which occupies approximately 140,000 square feet at its corporate headquarters in White Plains, NY. He has served in this role since 1986, bringing a level of hands-on management to assure that the facility is operating efficiently, cost-effectively and meeting the needs of the organization’s over 400 staff members.
As the executive charged with facility’s management, John interfaces regularly with other members of the organization’s executive and management teams, strategizing on new ideas, methods and procedures that optimize facilities use and operations. Under his leadership, new and improved building systems have been deployed along with enhanced building operations protocol including those relating to physical security and energy efficiencies.
John is a member of the International Facility Management Association and the National Association for Printing Leadership. Additionally, he is the founder and President of AliGraphics, a leading full-service provider of offset and digital printing, graphics, mailing and fulfillment services provided to unions, corporate, government and non-profit clientele.
Ellen R. Dunkin, Esq. serves as a Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Chief Risk Officer for the Amalgamated Family of Companies including Amalgamated Life Insurance. She is responsible for legal counsel, regulatory compliance and interactions with New York State and various insurance departments, as well as the oversight of all contracts. Additionally, she heads the Company’s Enterprise Risk Management program and committee, and works with its brokers on its insurance program and claims administration. In this role, she lends a proven track record in corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, enterprise risk management, company financings, human resources and executive compensation.
Directly prior to joining Amalgamated Life in 2012, Ellen served as Senior Vice President and Associate General Counsel and Director of Risk Management with the Crump Group, Inc. (New York, NY), where she was also the chief architect and director of a company-wide enterprise risk management program. She also held roles as: General Counsel, Director of Government Affairs and Assistant Secretary for the Risk and Insurance Management Society, Inc. (New York, NY); a Private Practitioner (Larchmont, NY); Senior Attorney at Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc. (New York, NY); and Corporate Associate with Willkie Farr & Gallagher (New York, NY).
Ellen is a member of the Board of Directors of RIMS, the risk management society. Her industry roles also include that of former President and Director of the RIMS New York Chapter, 2016–2017 Secretary of the Employment & Labor Law Committee (ELLC) of the Association Corporate Counsel (ACC), 2012–2014 Chair of the Programming Committee of ELLC, active participant on the ACC Compliance Committee, and mentor through the Young Risk Professionals Committee of the New York Chapter of RIMS.
Ellen earned her Bachelor of Arts in English from the State University of New York at Albany (Albany, NY), where she graduated cum laude, and her Juris Doctorate from St. John’s University School of Law (Jamaica, NY), where she served as Associate Editor of the Law Review and earned Dean’s List honors. She is admitted to the New York State Bar, and the Federal District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
Timothy J. Kristof serves as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Amalgamated Family of Companies. In this role, he is responsible for overseeing multiple areas of financial management and operations, in addition to lending his proven track record in areas that include transformational growth, cross-functional team management, and product and market development.
Timothy joined Amalgamated in 2018 bringing over 25 years of experience as a senior finance and operations executive serving in both public and private companies, including 20 years CFO and senior finance experience in the insurance, reinsurance financial service industries. He was the CFO at Brightstar Device Protection, LLC, the insurance and service contract business of Brightstar Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SoftBank Group, a global telecommunications company. His career also included roles as Chief Operating Officer and CFO at Asterisk Financial, a start-up insurance services company, and Vice President, Finance, Global Business Services with XL Capital, Ltd., a $10 billion public global property, casualty and life insurance and reinsurance company.
In addition to these positions, Timothy had a 14 year tenure in senior finance, operations and risk management roles within the General Electric organization. He began his professional career with KPMG Peat Marwick serving in its audit and tax departments in progressively more responsible roles during a five year tenure.
Timothy holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Fairfield University and a Certified Public Accountant license, State of Connecticut.
Julie O’Brien is the President of AliCare Medical Management (AMM). Ms. O’Brien joined AMM in 2002 and brings over 30 years of business, nursing and clinical management experience. Her responsibilities include organizational oversight, encompassing day-to-day operations and clinical management in the Salem, NH and King of Prussia, PA locations.
Ms. O’Brien’s professional career reflects extensive clinical and medical practice management experience at Massachusetts General Hospital, Health Dialog, Partners Health Care, North Shore Medical Center and Beverly Hospital. She is a frequent speaker and writer on emerging care management issues.
As a national thought leader in the healthcare and care management fields, Ms. O’Brien has assumed a leadership role in several trade groups and quality organizations. She serves as the past President of the National Association of Independent Review Organizations (NAIRO), Vice Chair of the RadSite Accreditation Committee, Chair of the Clear Health Quality Institute (CHQI) Insurance Appeals Standard Committee, and is a member of the URAC Accreditation Committee. She is an active member of the Women in Business Leaders for the Health Care Industry (WBL) and American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing (AAACN).
She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Salem State College and a Master in Business with a concentration in health care administration from Lesley University.
Jonathan Pollio, F.S.A., M.A.A.A. is a Senior Vice President and the Chief Actuary for Amalgamated Life. He applies over 20 years of broad actuarial experience in the management and implementation of all actuarial functions within the organization.
Jonathan joined Amalgamated Life in 2016 bringing with him in-depth expertise and broad skills relating to all aspects of the actuarial function, from assessments of liabilities to preparation of actuarial balances, and analyses and recommendations relating to financial statements and reporting.
Prior to joining Amalgamated Life, Jonathan was the Vice President, Chief Actuary with Citizens, Inc. (Austin, TX) where he signed financial statements, managed actuarial issues in financial reporting, monitored products for profitability and provided actuarial support to the company’s various departments. His career also included actuarial roles with Genworth Financial Corporation, Canada Life Insurance Company and American Bankers Life Assurant.
Jonathan is a member of the Society of Actuaries Annuity Reserve Working Group and is a member of the American Academy of Actuaries (M.A.A.A.). He earned his Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) designation in 1997.
Jonathan holds a Bachelor of Science in Statistics from the University of Florida.
Richard Rust serves as Executive Vice President at Amalgamated Life and as the Fund Manager for the National Retirement Fund. In this role, he oversees all matters relating to the Fund’s administration, performance, compliance and reporting.
Richard joined Amalgamated Life in 2008 with extensive experience as a Fund Manager. Specifically, he was the Fund Manager for the Textile Workers Pension Fund, the UNITE Textile Workers Pension Fund and the UNITE HERE Workers Pension Fund. He served in this role from 1990 to 2007 and was credited with strong oversight and effective management.
In addition to his fund management roles, Richard worked as a business agent and Associate Joint Board Manager with the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union (ACTWU) and the Union of Needletrades, Industrial and Textile Employees (UNITE).
He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education from East Texas State University (Commerce, Texas).
Vicki Sartor is Senior Vice President of Finance for the Amalgamated Family of Companies including Amalgamated Life Insurance. In this role, she is responsible for all internal and external governmental and regulatory financial reporting for the organization and associated Taft-Hartley Funds.
In addition, as part of her role, Vicki is responsible for coordinating efforts to produce periodic financial projections and pricing proposals for other companies within the Amalgamated Family of Companies. Her responsibilities also consist of management and oversight of various Finance Departments, including: Corporate Financial Reporting, Statutory Financial Reporting, Fund Financial Reporting, Budget & Cost Allocation Analysis, and Tax & Regulatory Reporting. Providing oversight of accounting policies and procedures, as well as making recommendations for their improvements is also part of her expansive role.
A member of the organization since 1987, she brings extensive experience and in-depth expertise to this vital position and provides direct support to the Chief Financial Officer on all corporate strategic initiatives.
Vicki earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
Raghubar Singh serves as Senior Vice President & Chief Information Officer for the Amalgamated Family of Companies including Amalgamated Life Insurance. Applying over 30 years of IT experience, he oversees the Company’s Information Technology (IT) department and is directly involved in all strategic decisions relating to the use of IT to address the Company’s operational needs and strategic business goals. As part of his management of the day-to-day IT operations, Raghubar directs the procurement, architecture and application of end-to-end solutions, as well as cyber risk management and security procedures and protocols to safeguard the organization’s enterprise IT systems. He also plays an important role in business process enhancement through the application of sophisticated IT systems and related staff training.
Raghubar joined Amalgamated in 2006 after serving as Assistant Technology Director for the Health Insurance Plan of New York where he developed provider portals and other e-business applications. He began his IT career as a programmer/analyst with Guardian Life Insurance Company of America. He worked there for 15 years, steadily rising through the ranks to become its Assistant Vice President in charge of implementing e-business initiatives.
Raghubar earned his Master of Business Administration from the State University of New York at Binghamton.
John A. Thornton serves as Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing at the Amalgamated Family of Companies. In this role, he has broad responsibility for the sales and marketing functions of Amalgamated Life Insurance and the other companies within the family. Additionally, as a member of the organization’s senior executive team, he is actively involved in the operations, oversight and direction of the organization.
John joined Amalgamated Life in 2008 in his current role. He came to the Company with over 20 years of experience in insurance sales and marketing. His career includes 16 years serving at CIGNA, where he transitioned from group insurance to health insurance as CIGNA’s Vice President of Sales. He also served as National Sales Manager with Metropolitan Life, a role in which he oversaw the development, introduction and management of an investment-sensitive life insurance product.
Since joining Amalgamated, John has led the organization through significant growth and development phases. He was a driving force in the expansion of the Company’s voluntary worksite product line, its geographic expansion, growth of the Company’s sales force, and a major branding campaign. As a result of these factors and his effective sales management, the company has enjoyed significant increases in its product sales.
In addition to his sales and marketing role, as a member of the Executive Committee, John’s input has contributed to important operational efficiencies, board developments, compliance matters and overall gains in performance and brand reputation.
John holds a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial relations from Le Moyne College in Syracuse. He is actively involved in the industry and serves as an industry thought leader authoring articles for leading trade publications and frequently serving as an expert source for trade, business and news media.
